What is OnFly?
OnFly is a tool included in the basic setup of all platforms. It allows you to add, remove, or change the sequence of a task within a round.
How does OnFly work?
When you open a task—whether it is already assigned to a round or not—you will see a button called “Search for Rounds.” This is the OnFly.
Adding tasks via Onfly
By clicking this button, you have two options:
•Manually select a round and a task sequence.
•Let the system recommend the best round and sequence for the task.
If you choose the system’s recommendation, it will suggest the most suitable round and order. However, you can still modify them manually if needed.
Removing tasks from rounds via On-fly
OnFly can also recommend an ongoing round and allow you to add or remove a task, even if the round is already in delivery. If a task is already assigned to a round, a “Remove” button will appear, giving you the option to take it out. Naturally, if no rounds exist, OnFly will not be available.
What is the impact of using OnFly?
All actions performed using OnFly are logged. Additionally, they may affect other tasks within the round. For example:
•The estimated time of arrival (ETA) may change.
•The task sequence may be adjusted.
•If automatic email or SMS notifications are enabled, they could also be impacted.
❗ Be careful as this functionality allows constraints to be violated (time windows, vehicle capacity, etc...). When that's the case a red message will be displayed at the top of the window and you have to confirm your action a second time (see example above).
When should you use OnFly?
Because OnFly has a significant impact on rounds, we recommend using it only for last-minute exceptional modifications. It can also serve as a backup solution if other management tools are temporarily unavailable.
