Overview
Linked pickup and delivery is a feature that allows you to connect pickup and delivery tasks that must be executed together in a specific sequence. This is commonly used for scenarios where items need to be collected from one location and delivered to another on the same day.
How it works
Linked pickup and delivery tasks are automatically paired when they meet specific criteria:
-
Same Task ID: Both tasks must share the same unique task identifier
-
Same Order: Both tasks must be associated with the same order
-
Same Date: Both tasks must be scheduled for the same day
-
Matching Barcodes: Items in both tasks must have identical barcodes
When these conditions are met, the system automatically pairs the tasks in the same round.
Key Requirements
Sequential Execution
-
Pickup First: The pickup task must always be completed before the delivery task
-
Same Round: Both tasks must be assigned to the same delivery round
-
Same Day: Tasks cannot span across multiple days
Barcode Matching
-
Items must have matching barcodes between pickup and delivery tasks
-
Manual barcode assignment is required - automatic barcode generation will not work
-
During execution, the barcodes ensure status synchronization between linked tasks
Best Practices
Planning and Modifications
-
Pre-plan Routes: Design rounds with pickup locations scheduled before delivery destinations
-
Barcode Verification: Double-check that barcodes match exactly between linked tasks
-
Use Round Editor: Make adjustments through the round editor interface rather than on-the-fly modifications
-
Monitor Execution: Track both tasks to ensure proper sequential completion
Setup Considerations
-
Ensure barcode consistency across both tasks before scheduling
-
Verify that pickup and delivery locations are logistically feasible for the same round
-
Plan routes to optimize the pickup-to-delivery sequence
